Dear Families, September 25, 2014
I am delighted to be your child's teacher this year. Now that I've had the opportunity to meet the students who will make up this class I know we're going to have a great year!
Our class is off to a wonderful start! We have 22 grade 3 students. There is a child with a severe peanut allergy so please remember not to send any snacks or lunches that contain nuts.
The children should now be bringing home their agenda each day. Please check the agenda for notices, notes and other events that are happening and initial beside the day. The spelling words for the week will be written in the agenda under "Words of the Week". The children will write the words down on Monday. We will work with the words during the week, and the children will get a spelling test on Friday. We will also be incorporating theme words and challenging words as well as high frequency words that they need to know how to spell. Our home reading program will begin the first week of October.
I would appreciate it if each child could contribute a box of Kleenex for the classroom to be used throughout the year. It would be helpful if your child had a pencil case at school to keep their pencils, crayons, etc. in. Keeping their desk and locker organized and tidy are goals for Personal Planning.
Our gym days are yet to be determined. It would be helpful if your child were to keep a pair of running shoes at school, as weather permitting, we will go for a run around the school playground on a daily basis. Keeping a water bottle at their desk is also a good idea. Library book exchange as a class is on Wednesday; however library books can be exchanged any day at lunchtime or afterschool.
The Professional Development which was originally scheduled for this Friday has been rescheduled to a later date.
On Friday September 26th we will be having our Terry Fox Run from 1:30 - 2:30 pm. We are hoping everyone will contribute "A Toonie For Terry" and participate in the "Wacky Hair Day".
If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child's progress please feel free to contact me at any time. I look forward to having a wonderful year teaching and learning about the children in my class.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lynne Johnson
